It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Todd Focht, beloved husband, father, soldier, and friend, who passed away on June 22, 2026, at the age of 60.

Stephen lived a life defined by service, courage, adventure, and unwavering devotion to his family. Above all else, he was a loving husband to his wife, Cherry, a proud father to his son, Samuel, and a caring stepfather to Robert. His family was the center of his world, and his love for them was evident in everything he did.

Before dedicating his life to military service, Stephen was an accomplished bass guitar player who spent time performing on the rock music scene. His passion for music remained with him throughout his life and reflected the creativity and spirit that made him so memorable to those who knew him.

Answering a calling greater than himself, Stephen joined the United States Marine Corps, later serving in the United States Army and the Army National Guard. Over a military career spanning more than two decades, he served honorably through multiple overseas deployments from the early 1990s through 2005. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, Stephen deployed to Afghanistan as an Army Medic, providing critical care and support to fellow servicemembers in a time of war. His dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to serving his country left a lasting impact on those who served beside him.

In addition to his military accomplishments, Stephen built a remarkable civilian career as a commercial diver. He worked throughout the Gulf of Mexico and at NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, supporting projects that demanded exceptional skill, discipline, and courage. A career he deeply loved was interrupted when duty called and he returned to active military service following 9/11.

After leaving active duty in 2005, Stephen continued serving in the reserves until his retirement from military service in 2011. Throughout every chapter of his life, whether as a musician, diver, medic, soldier, husband, or father, Stephen approached each challenge with determination, resilience, and honor.

Stephen will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for his strength of character, sense of humor, loyalty, and willingness to help others. He touched the lives of many through his friendship, mentorship, and service. Those who knew him will remember a man who lived boldly, loved deeply, and served faithfully.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Cherry Focht; his son, Samuel Focht; his stepson, Robert; and many extended family members, friends, and fellow servicemembers who mourn his loss and celebrate his life.

Though he is no longer with us, Stephen's legacy of service, courage, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Fair winds and following seas, Stephen.
